“If I wanted her released…”

After 16 months of imprisonment with no verdict, Karan and Afarin were offered an astronomically large bail. After deliberation and hard work, they found a way to meet the bail for Afarin. When they initiated the process to formally post this bail, the judiciary told Karan: “If I wanted her released, I wouldn’t have set the bail so high.”

The judiciary’s refusal to follow its own word and detain Afarin despite giving her a legal pathway for relief is dumbfounding.
